Attorney General's Office confirmed on appeal the penalty of dismissal and disability for 12 years, former mayor of Medellín (Antioquia)

In ruling on appeal, the Attorney General's Office confirmed the sanction of removal and general disqualification for a period of 12 years for Mr. Alonso Salazar Jaramillo, in his capacity as mayor of Medellín (Antioquia) to the date of the facts , for using his power and authority to incur the prohibitions of the Law of Guarantees, in addition to influencing elections of a political party still held the office.

Mr. Salazar Jaramillo is accused of having participated "actively, personally and voluntarily, in full rigor of the prohibitions contained in the Law of Guarantees," the decision-making self issued by the Disciplinary Chamber of the control entity, which also states that the then mayor intervened "in the activities of political parties and movements, and influenced elections of a political party in an election period which demands the utmost impartiality of all officers and servants of the state."

The Attorney General notes that during this period, public servants should ensure the transparency of local races and disciplined exmandatario comments and statements made by various print media and electronic equipment in order to advertise about a possible commission of offenses for part of some candidates for elected office in the elections held in October 2011.

With the former leader committed such conduct in violation of Article 6 of the Constitution, 23 and 27 of Law 734 of 2002 and law 130 of 94 and 996 of 2005, being listed as very serious faults by way of fraud.

The court ruling was handed down by the National Delegate for Preventive Monitoring of Public on 29 February.
