Attorney General's Office trained native of La Guajira in environmental issues

In the settlement of Kamusuchiwou community, belonging to the Wayuu, located in Port Bolivar - Alta Guajira, the Attorney General's Office developed a training session regarding the rights in environmental matters will assist the indigenous community and established tools for defense.

Through the Division for Agricultural and Environmental Affairs, the Control Agency met the concerns that community members Kamusuchiwou raised last December during a roundtable agency, to issues of social, environmental and land that have from exploitation of the Cerrejon coal, specifically the port of shipment, next to the settlement area of the community.

During the training session, which took place on 9 February, the Attorney General's Office provided training to community members Kamusuchiwou on constitutional aspects of the environment, introduced the National Environmental System and mechanisms for citizen participation in environmental management, with emphasis on "prior consultation" as an instrument of defense of the ethnic and cultural identity of indigenous communities.
