Attorney reiterates call to the council for the election of municipal officials is legal and transparent

The Attorney General's Office reiterates the call through Circular 040 of 2011 made ​​to the council of the country, to comply fully with the provisions of the Constitution and the law regarding the election of municipal and district levels.

The Special Prosecutor for Decentralization and Local Authorities, Carlos Augusto Díaz Mesa, reported that they have received complaints about alleged irregularities in the election of ombudsmen, attributable to conduct of some council members who have made illegal demands to candidates for office.

The said circular points out that provincial and district attorneys, under the guidance and supervision of regional attorneys, conduct their surveillance for the election of the ombudsmen is transparent, objective criteria of merit and respect for the exercise of public functions.

The choice of who will be prosecutors in the municipalities, citizens should be on the most excellent professional qualities, personal and social, as they are the representatives and guardians of law and fundamental rights advocates in their communities.

The Regional Directors shall be elected for a period of four years that begin in the first day of March 2012 and end on last day of February 2016.
